Letters

Alcohol is already here

Editor;
The enclosed text is intended as a reply to a letter that was printed in your paper 9-22-09. The letter was entitled “Alcohol definitely not needed in Picayune”, submitted by Melinda Dukes. While I respect Ms. Dukes personal opinion, there are several flaws that suggest response.

  • Is liquor really our economic salvation?
    Editor:
    The Picayune Item has come out strongly in favor of bringing liquor sales to Pearl River County. I feel that the other side of the issue should be given equal airing.

  • Sheriffs Department should strictly enforce all traffic laws
    Editor:
    I read in a recent newspaper article that Sheriff Allison is going to have to make drastic changes in the way his Department is going to be operated. Major cut-backs in funding via the Board of Supervisors have been set to take effect Oct. 1. Pearl River County needs all the Deputies we can get at this time and age with all the crime that’s happening all over the state. Not only the crime but what about the traffic. This has increased many, many times since Hurricane Katrina blew all of the evacuees and the construction workers into South Mississippi, both legal and illegal.

  • Alcohol definitely not needed in Picayune
    Picayune does not need alcohol. Let’s face it — alcohol breeds crime, and our city is better than this!

  • Now we know what??
    Editor;
    In response to your article “Now We Know” September 20, 2009. Our local editor of the Picayune Item took the word of one individual and the article printed September 18, 2009 “City lost one restaurant because of law” regarding the potential location of Applebee’s in Picayune. First of all, I can not believe a large chain such as Applebee’s would enter into a proposal to locate in Picayune without first gathering all the facts and laws that would govern such a decision. Second, did our local editor bother to check with Applebee’s regarding this matter or simply rely on Mr. Thigpen’s comments? You and I both know the answer to this question.

  • Obey the police officer before you kill a child!

    Obey the police officer before you kill a child!

  • Thomas Sowell knows his stuff
    Editor:
    I have been meaning to write to thank the management of the Picayune Item for including the writings of Dr. Thomas Sowell ...

  • Citizens of Picayune deserve resonsible elected officials

  • Plan to have Vets pay for service related injuries no good
    Editor:
    If you are angry at the AIG bonus debacle and have any anger left may I direct it towards the proposal being consider by the Obama White House.

  • More details on stimulous bill soon will come to light
    Editor;
    I was not surprised to read your column published March 17. Your feined outrage over the AIG bonuses is straight out of the Obama playbook and talking points.
