CLINTON — On July 12, written invitations were extended to Iowa gubernatorial candidates Chet Culver and Jim Nussle to participate in a debate of the issues affecting Iowans.
The event would take place Sept. 12, on the campus of Ashford University, a co-sponsor of the debate along with the Clinton Herald.
Culver is the Democratic nominee and current Secretary of State, and Nussle, a Republican, is currently representing Iowa’s First Congressional District.
Candidates would field questions submitted from Clinton County residents and have an opportunity to meet with constituents following the 90-minute debate.
The Clinton Herald has contacted the offices of both candidates to solicit responses to the invitations. Neither candidate has indicated whether he will participate in the debate.
