Bethel game dinner is Nov. 17

By Sonja Young
Herald Staff Writer

CLINTON — The good people at Bethel AME Church are back in the restaurant business.

The church will be serving its annual wild game dinner from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 17 at the church.

According to church member and cook, Vince Jetter, a variety of wild game will be offered, including beaver and venison. Fried chicken, ham and turkey also will be on the menu.

The meal comes with potatoes, green beans, assorted pies and Jetter added he is in charge of cooking the 80 pounds of sweet potatoes. He doesn’t think rabbit or squirrel will be on the menu this year.

Jetter says the dinner has been held for so many years that he has seen generations come through the doors.

All the meat is donated.

“Can’t buy it, it’s against the law,” Jetter explained. “Everything is donated. The cooks are all members of the church and we have a lot of volunteers.”

He said church pastor Leoma Williams has a big part to play.

“If it weren’t for her we wouldn’t be pressured into doing it.” Jetter related. “We have to do it in order to meet our obligations for the rest of the year.”

Tickets are $7 in advance and $8 at the door. For tickets, call at 242-0732 or 242-6712. Jetter said he will be more than glad to deliver the tickets to people who live in Clinton.

Jetter thanked the community for its support throughout the years.

“This is what keeps our doors open and heats the building for the rest of the year,” he said. “It’s God’s meal.”
