Celebration of Music set for Sunday

By Sonja Young
Herald Staff Writer

CLINTON — The 18th annual Celebration of Music will be held Sunday at Clinton High School.

The event will start with a roast pork/chicken dinner to be served in the Clinton High School commons from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The menu includes baked potatoes, green beans, applesauce, roll, dessert and a drink. Tickets for the dinner are $7 for adults and $6 for senior citizens (65 and older) and children 5 to 10 years old.

The marching bands will begin their performance on the CHS football field at 3 p.m. The performance by the new Clinton Middle School Marching Band and Color Guard will start the show. The band consists of the newly reorganized Lyons and Washington middle school bands.

According to Karen Schoen, the two bands have merged together to form one big band.

“This big and exciting group of young musicians will truly amaze each and every one,” she said.

The band is under the direction of instrumental music instructors Marilyn Fee and Jack Martinez.

The Royal River Kings and Queens Marching Band and Color Guard is under the direction of James Young and Michelle Jensen. The band will perform music from “The Prince of Egypt.” Schoen says the Clinton show has placed highly at marching band competitions in the state over the past few weekends.

Admission to the concert is free. The public is invited to attend.

The bands will present their last performance on the streets of Clinton on Monday during the Mardi Gras Parade.

The high school band will be marching in the Great American Thanksgiving Day Parade scheduled for Nov. 23 in Chicago.
