Northeast pushes back technology staffing plan

GOOSE LAKE — The Northeast School District will delay moving forward with a proposal to create a technology position.

During the Northeast Board of Education meeting Wednesday night, Superintendent Jim Cox suggested the district wait on transferring technology duties managed by Twin State Technical Services, of Davenport, to a technology position. In the proposal made last month, a current math teacher would spend part of his time teaching a calculus, robotics and computer programming class and the rest of his time managing the district’s technology infrastructure.

After speaking to Middle/High School Principal Alicia Christiansen, Cox decide Thursday that this teacher should not be moved to the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematic (STEM) program until the school’s new science facility and curriculum are complete.

“We don’t have the classroom. We don’t have the curriculum,” Cox said. “If we don’t have our ducks in order before we move forward, it will be a disaster.”

Christiansen is currently looking at the STEM curriculum of other schools to determine what will be correct for Northeast. She said they should start small and see how it evolves.

The district will continue to contact with Twin State Technical Services for the time being.
