CLINTON — Even if Clinton High swimmers aren’t advancing to the state meet, they still had the chance to get on the stand at Saturday’s district swimming meet at the River King and Queen Aquatic Center.

Head Coach Albert Hayton said the week prior that the level of competition in Clinton’s pool on Saturday was going to be high, and there would be some state champions swimming and moving on to the state meet.

For the River Kings, the 200 Yard Medley Relay made of Tanner Raaymakers, Aidan Smith, Chris Taylor-Bice and Jack Marlowe found themselves on the stand after swimming a 1:56.99 for a sixth place finish.

Raaymakers, Marlowe and Taylor-Bice joined up with Noah Smith for another sixth place finish in the 200 Yard Free Relay, swimming a 1:42.08. That relay team was just a little over a second away from the fifth place finisher.

The 400 Yard Free Relay also took sixth with a 4:03.97 finish. That team was made up of Nate Cady, Noah Smith, Aidan Smith and Payton Raaymakers.

Taylor-Bice got on the stand individually with a fourth place finish in the 100 Yard Backstroke. He posted 1:02.57, less than four seconds behind the first place finished from Pleasant Valley.

Bettendorf and Pleasant Valley ran the meet, taking the first slot in all but two of the events. Bettendorf came out on top with 417 points, closely followed by PV with 415. Clinton ended with 113 points as a team, finishing sixth.
