CLINTON – The Ashford men’s tennis team moved to a perfect 8-0 inside the Ashford Indoor Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon, picking up a 9-0 win over NCAA Division III Opponent, Loras College (Iowa).
The victory moves Ashford to 13-1 in dual matches in 2014-15 and is the sixth time this year the Saints have earned a clean sweep over an opponent.
In doubles play, the Saints’ number one pairing of Erich Taach and Brayton Rasche earned an 8-5 win over the Duhawks’ Brian Falvey and Zach Atzen. The number two pairing of senior Gian Pico and junior Lucas Benites picked up an 8-2 win and the Saints’ number three tandem of freshmen Kevin Murphy and Tommy Tyler were 8-1 winners to close out doubles play.
Pico was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Falvey in number one singles play while sophomore Bart Van Rooijen grabbed a 6-1, 6-3 win over Ulises Hernandez in the number two spot.
Ashford would cruise to wins in the final four singles matches. Taach, the No. 3 player, and No. 5 player Lucas Benites both earned 6-0, 6-1 wins. Rasche and Murphy both cruised to 6-0, 6-0 wins in the number four and six spots, respectively.
