MARION – The Ashford women’s golf team wrapped up play at the Mount Mercy Spring Invitational on Sunday at Hunters Ridge Golf Course with two Saints setting career bests during the two-day event.
After sitting in third place after Day 1, the Saints slid one spot to finish fourth overall with a team score of 714 (350-364).
Leading the charge for the Saints was junior Taylor Stewart, who bounced back from a tough first day to finish in fourth place overall with a 168 (91-77). The Erie, Illinois, native set a career high with the fourth -place finish, and her 77 was the low round during the tournament, as well as a personal best.
After leading at the end of Day 1, senior Katelyn Gille finished in a tie for 10th place with a 174 (80-94). Her 80 was a career low round.
Junior Katie Thompson tied for 19th place (83-97–180), missing her career low round by one shot on Day 1. Freshman Andrea Strohmaier fired back-to-back rounds of 96 to finish 32nd with a 192.
Viterbo earned the team championship with a 676 (337-339), winning by 19 shots over second-place Clarke. Viterbo’s Danielle Duckow earned medalist honors with a 164 (81-83), besting teammate Erin Isaacson by one shot for the top spot.
