PRESTON — Lucas Assenmacher birdied three holes and finished with a 1-under-par 35 to claim medalist honors and lead host Preston to a quadrangular victory in boys golf Wednesday at Plum River Golf Course.

Preston finished with a 167 total, 20 strokes better than East Central. Andrew finished at 190, and Northeast posted a 209.

Assenmacher opened with a pair of pars before making a birdie on the par-5 third hole. After making a pair of par-3s around a bogey on No. 5, he made back-to-back birdies on the par-5 seventh and par-4 eighth holes.

Andrew’s Montana Deppe was the runner-up with a 42.

Camanche 4th at Monticello

MONTICELLO — Dan McGarry claimed third-place honors on a card back and led Camanche to a fourth-place finish Wednesday at the Monticello boys golf tournament.

Camanche had a 341 team total, just five strokes behind runner-up Marion and four behind Maquoketa. Alex Beck led the Cardinals with an 81.

McGarry shot a 40-38—78 to tie Nick Cranny of Marion for the third-best round. McGarry had one birdie on the front nine — on the par-5 ninth hole — and he had seven pars and two bogeys on the back side.

Bennet Klostermann of Dyersville Beckman shot a 3-under-par 69 to claim medalist honors and lead his team to first place with a 306 total. Jimmy Fagerlind of Beckman took second with a 77.
