The Bellevue Comets had five athletes named to the Iowa Newspaper Association’s Class 1A All-State Football team when they released the list on Monday.

The Comets went 8-2 in 2017, losing in the playoffs to Wilton at home.

Junior Trey Daugherty and senior Cade Daugherty both made 1st Team All-State.

Senior quarterback Cade Daugherty completed 136 passes for 2,237 yards this season. He only threw nine interceptions while throwing for 25 touchdowns —his longest being 90 yards. He also rushed for almost 300 yards.

Junior Trey Daugherty was Cade’s favorite target with 49 receptions for 863 receiving yards. He averaged 17.6 yards per catch with seven touchdowns. Both athletes also made contributions to Bellevue’s defense.

Lineman Zach Bullock and linebacker Riley Konrardy made 2nd Team. Runningback Hunter Clasen received 3rd Team honors.
