CLINTON — Clinton won two of three doubles matches to pull out a 5-4 victory against Pleasant Valley on Tuesday in a tuneup for this week’s Mississippi Athletic Conference meet.

The teams split the six singles matches, making doubles the determining factor. There, Megan Determan and Meggie Buikema recorded a straight-sets victory at No. 1, making the meet come down to a pair of doubles matches that went to the third-set tiebreaker. Each team won one of those, with Julia Vodislav and Sarah Massey overcoming a first-set loss and recording a 2-6, 6-2 (10-6) win for Clinton.

“The Queen netters have set a goal to be one or two in the MAC again this year, so we knew tonight would be an important meet for seeding for the conference,” Clinton coach Cindy Rasche said. “I had planned on one more singles win and a doubles victory tonight. Hopefully, when we see those players again we’ll pick up those other close matches.”

Clinton placed second behind Bettendorf at last year’s conference meet. The MAC meet is Thursday and Friday at North Scott and Davenport West.
