ELDRIDGE — Julia Vodislav reached the finals at No. 1 singles, and Clinton’s other five tennis players advanced to the semifinals before rain interrupted play Thursday at the first day of the Mississippi Athletic Conference girls tournament at North Scott High School.

Vodislav, the top seed, opened with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Saige Sulzberger of Muscatine in the quarterfinals and then beat Stowe Heiderscheit of Bettendorf 6-1, 6-0 in the semifinals. That was the lone semifinal match that was completed. Only one doubles match was completed, and that no Clinton players were involved.

“We did a great job getting our girls seeded,” Clinton coach Cindy Rathje said. “Now they need to hold those seeds and we should fare well. All of our girls were focused and played solid first-round matches.”

Megan Determan (No. 2), Sarah Massey (No. 3), Jenny Vens (No. 4), Megan Goetzl (No. 5) and Alison Howard (No. 6) all moved into the semifinals in singles for the River Queens.

Play was scheduled to continue at 2 p.m. today at North Scott.
