CLINTON — The Clinton River Queens basketball team handed out their end of season awards after completing their best season since 2009-2010.
Junior Megan Gandrup, who led the team in assists and points, took home the varsity most valuable player honor. Gandrup also picked up all-conference and all-area honors.
Molly Chapman, a junior, took home the defensive excellence award. The River Queens finished fourth in defensive efficiency in the Mississippi Athletic Conference this season.
Seniors Sarah Goldensoph and Madi Eberhart were named most valued teammates. Both Eberhart and Goldensoph also grabbed all-conference and all-area honors this season, with Goldensoph leading the River Queens in rebounds. Clinton led the MAC in rebounding this season, averaging just over 30 rebounds a game as a team.
Senior McKenna Eberhart and junior Macy Mulholland were named the most improved players on the team.
This season, Madison Eberhart was also named to the Iowa Girls’ Coach Association Academic All-State and the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association Academic All-District.
Seniors Sarah Goldensoph and Madison Eberhart were also invited to participate in the Iowa vs. Illinois All-State game.
The Clinton River Queens finished 5-17 overall and 5-13 in the MAC. That was the most wins in conference play since 2009-2010.
