CEDAR RAPIDS — Clinton claimed fifth place Saturday at the 14-team Cedar Rapids Jefferson Invitational wrestling tournament.
Fort Dodge won the team title with 268.5 points, followed by Dubuque Hempstead (216), Moline (153.5), West Delaware (133) and the River Kings (115.5).
Ethan Barry had the highest finish for Clinton. He placed third at 195 pounds with a 6-4 win over Triston Licht of Fort Dodge.
The Chapman twins added fourth-place finishes for Clinton.
Jess Chapman placed fourth at 145, getting pinned by Indianola’s Josh Barretta in 5:32 in the third-place match.
Ben Chapman lost 11-3 to Boone’s Jimmy Boustead in the third-place match at 160.
The River Kings also claimed four fifth-place finishes. Darrin Bethard took fifth at 132, Isaac Larkin was fifth at 138, Clem Butler placed fifth at 170 and Dawson Troxel nabbed fifth at 220.
Kyle Guilliams was sixth at 152, Hunter Randall was seventh at 182 and Tanner Samuels placed eighth at 120
Sabers third, Northeast 10th
CASCADE — Central DeWitt won three individual titles and placed third as a team Saturday at the Cascade Tournament.
The Sabers placed third at the 13-team tournament, and Northeast took 10th. Western Dubuque won with 191 points, followed by Dyersville Beckman (155) and Central DeWitt (150.5).
Sabers freshmen won titles at the lowest two weights, and senior Nick Smith improved to 10-0 when he beat Freddie Hosch of Western Dubuque 9-3 in the final at 195.
Keaton Zeimet (24-1) won at 106 pounds, edging Aidan Noonan of Cascade 6-5. Robert Howard (21-4) was the champion at 113, edging La Porte City Union’s Payton Hellman 5-4.
Max Cousins was the runner-up at 152, and Cameron Lee took second at 285 for the Sabers, and Cody Penniston took sixth at 120 and Theodore Fox was sixth at 160.
Wyatt Schmidt led Northeast with a third-place finish at 160 pounds after beating Mitch Smith of Maquoketa Valley 3-2.
Tristen Daniels added a fourth-place finish at 182, and Peyton Capion was fourth at 285. Carsen Mangelsen placed sixth for the Rebels at 145.
