OREGON — The Fulton girls’ basketball team went 2-0 at the Oregon Tournament played in the championship game Saturday afternoon.
The Steamers took down West Carroll 58-38 in their second game of the year Friday night. Sophomore Emily Schipper led the team with a double double, putting up 18 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Kearston Norman added ten points, and Kylee Sweenie had five points and four steals.
“We started slow and undisciplined and our defense was poor for the first quarter,” coach Mike Menchaca said. “We settled in better in the second.”
The Steamers held the Thunder to just six points in the third quarter.
“The biggest thing was running our offense and finishing the game off,” Menchaca said. “I knew we would get going defensively but early on it didn’t feel too good. We have to be consistent in how we come our and how we prepare. It has to be consistent.”
Fulton went on a 9-0 run to started the fourth quarter and finished the game with the 20 point advantage.
They played AFC on Saturday for the championship.
Forreston Thanksgiving Tournament continues
FORRESTON — Eastland girls’ basketball has started their 2017 season 4-0 in the Forreston Thanksgiving Tournament, taking down Rochelle, Forreston and Winnebago in tournament play.
Eastland dfeated Winnebago in overtime on Saturday, 73-68. They were led by Katie Krogman with 18 points, eight rebounds and two assists and Erin Henze with 16 points, six rebounds and six assists. Karlie Krogman added another 11 points and seven rebounds.
Eastland will continue tournament play on Monday, taking on Morrison.
Unity wins own tournament
FULTON—The Unity Christian Knights boys’ basketball team kicked off their season on Thursday, and ended up winning first place in their own tournament.
The Knights defeated Quad City Christian 53-25 on Thursday to put themselves in the championship game on Friday night. They took down Galesburg Christian 65-51.
