PROPHETSTOWN, Ill. — Emily Cox hit a pair of home runs and drove in three runs to lead Erie/Prophetstown past Fulton 4-2 in Three Rivers Conference softball Monday.

“The deciding factor was a home run shot,” Fulton Coach Jessie Rosenow said.

Cox’s first home run gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Her second shot made it 4-2, one batter after EP (18-2) had gone ahead 3-2 in the sixth.

The Steamers tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the sixth when Madison Whitmore walked with two outs and scored on Hannah Pannell’s double. Pannell was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple.

Stephanie Thulen snapped the 2-2 tie in the bottom half of the inning. She led off with a single to center field, stole second base, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a groundout by Ashley Davis. Cox followed with her second home run to add an insurance run.

Bekah Ryan came in to pitch the seventh for the Panthers and retired Fulton in order to pick up the save.

Kennah Meier pitched the first six innings for EP and earned the win. She allowed six hits and two runs, walked two batters and struck out four.

Whitmore went the distance for Fulton, allowing five hits and one walk.

Despite the loss, Rosenow is happy with the way the Steamers (7-10) are playing.

“We are really starting to come together nicely,” she said. “We are gearing up for the postseason.”

Fulton scored the game’s first run in the top of the fourth inning. Chelsea Lesniewski singled with one out but was forced out at second on a grounder by Jamie Huennekens. Camerin Huizenga singled Huennekens to second, and she scored on a single by Whitmore.

The Panthers came right back in the bottom half of the inning.

Savannah Mettler doubled with one out, moved to third on a groundout and scored when Cox homered to left field.
