CLINTON — Colin Houzenga cleared the bases at Ashford University Field with a triple in the ninth inning to top Sherrard 11-6 in extra innings.

Sherrard couldn’t record an out until the Steamers won on their 5-run rally. Seth Sanderson led off the ninth with a single, then Trey Simmons reached on an error followed by back-to-back walks forced by Devon Ballard and Jack Lemke.

Houzenga picked up all his RBIs on that hit while Devin Bly chipped in two RBIs.

“We just keep finding a way to win,” Fulton Coach Kyle Miller said. “Sherrard is a well-coached quality club and we battled through.”

Fulton also scored three runs in the fourth inning. Cole McClary had an RBI single while Sanderson brought in McClary on a groundout. Jason Ryder also scored on an error.

Fulton used just two pitchers during the nine innings. Ballard threw for eight innings and needed 129 pitches to get through his outing; 70 of Ballard’s pitches were for strikes. Ballard allowed three earned runs while striking out two.

“Devon was great and battled his behind off,” Miller said.

Sanderson picked up the save in the ninth and allowed just one hit. Sanderson forced two flyouts and a groundout to end the game.
