MORRISON, Ill. — Emma Sitzmore and Lakin Goodman, the bottom two hitters in the Morrison order, hit home runs Tuesday to help lead the Fillies past Rockridge 8-6 in Three Rivers Conference softball.

Sitzmore and Lauren Rice each drove in three runs for Morrison (19-3), and Rice pitched the final inning to earn the save in relief of Brooke Stralow.

The Fillies gave Stralow a 6-0 lead after scoring five runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Rockets chipped away and got within 6-5 before the Fillies scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Thunder rock Galena

GALENA, Ill. — West Carroll erupted for 11 runs in the top of the first inning Tuesday and rolled over Galena 13-2 in a Northwest Upstate Illini Conference softball game that ended after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

“We got an 11-run first inning and basically coasted from there,” West Carroll Coach Don Mathey said. “Everyone got in the game tonight.”

Winning pitcher Abby Maike got the offense going when she led off the game with a double, and she scored when Emma Aljets followed with another double. Riley Sullivan added an RBI single later in the inning, Haley Appel drove in a run with a double, Maike hit a two-run single and Anna Badtke hit a two-run triple.

In the circle, Maike allowed five hits and two runs — one earned — as the Thunder improved to 12-11, 7-4 in the NUIC.

Panthers tumble

STERLING — Erie/Prophetstown stepped out of conference play Tuesday and suffered a 10-0 loss at the hands of Sterling.

Abri Hale went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs for the Golden Warriors, while Erin Stroup hit a home run in the victory.

Trailing 4-0, Erie/Prophetstown had its best threat in the top of the second but came up empty against winning pitcher Lexy Staples.

Emily Cox, who hit a pair of home runs Monday against Fulton, led off with a walk and moved up one base each on singles by Clare Kramer and Addison Morse. But Staples got out of trouble with a forceout at the plate and a 1-2-3 double play.
