PROPHETSTOWN, Ill. — Kylie Ackerman took a shutout into the seventh inning and closed out Erie/Prophetstown’s 3-1 victory against Sherrard on Monday in Three Rivers Conference softball.

Ashley Davis led the Panthers’ offense with a triple, a double, two runs batted in and a run scored.

Her two-out triple in the bottom of the third inning brought in the first two runs. It scored Savannah Mettler and Ackerman, who preceded Davis with two-out singles.

Davis reached on a two-out double in the fifth and made it 3-0 when she scored on Emily Cox’s single.

Sherrard spoiled Ackerman’s shutout bid in the top of the seventh inning when No. 9 hitter Jordan Hutton led off with a double and scored on leadoff batter Jaryn Kinder’s single.

Ackerman retired the next three batters to end the game.

Ackerman also pitched out of trouble in three other innings.

In the first, Kendra Mattingly singled with one out and Macy Hutchinson followed with a walk. But Ackerman got Libby Frye to hit into a forceout at third, and Spenser Strandgard grounded out to end the inning.

In the fourth, Frye led off with a single but was forced out at second base. A single by Faith Anderson and a two-out walk loaded the bases, but Ackerman got Hutton to hit into a forceout to end the inning.

Sherrard also got two-out singles from Hutchinson and Frye in the following inning, but Ackerman got Strandgard to pop out to end the threat.

Ackerman threw 63 pitches, 47 for strikes, and allowed seven hits and two walks. She struck out four batters.
