SHERRARD, Ill.  — Fulton played even with Sherrard for three innings Thursday before the defending Three Rivers Conference champion Tigers scored in three consecutive innings for a 6-0 softball win.

The Steamers (6-9) managed just four hits in the game.

Freshman Madison Whitmore pitched for Fulton and allowed 10 hits and one walk in seven innings. Only two of the six runs were earned. The Tigers broke through with one run in the fourth, added two in the fifth and scored three times in the sixth.

Panthers roll to 9-3 victory

PROPHETSTOWN, Ill. — Stephanie Thulen had three hits, and Ashley Davis homered and doubled in Erie/Prophetstown’s 9-3 Three Rivers Conference victory against Orion on Thursday.

Bekah Ryan was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs on nine hits, as the Panthers improved to 17-2.

The Chargers scored all three of their runs in the top of the second inning to tie the score, but EP came back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Thulen drove in the go-ahead run in the second inning with a single. Clare Kramer followed with another single, then Savannah Mettler hit a two-run single.

The Panthers hit for the cycle in the first inning. Thulen led off with a double and scored on Mettler’s one-out triple. Emily Cox followed with a run-scoring single but was thrown out trying for second base. Davis then hit her home run.

Pioneers top Fillies

MORRISON, Ill. — Defending Class 2A state champion Rock Island Alleman defeated Morrison 6-2 on Thursday, handing the Fillies just their third loss in 19 games.

Dakota Stout, the winning pitcher for the Pioneeers in last year’s state championship game against Teutopolis, limited the Fillies to four hits.

Lauren Rice, who pitched five innings for Morrison, spoiled the shutout bid when she hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Emma Melton had three hits, including a double for Morrison.

Thunder win 8-1

THOMSON, Ill. — Riley Sullivan threw a complete-game four-hitter and her offense provided a pair of four-run innings as West Carroll defeated Lena-Winslow 8-1 on Thursday in Northwest Upstate Illini Conference softball.

Sullivan and Christy Ralston each drove in a pair of runs for the Thunder (11-10, 5-4 NUIC). Lena-Winslow dropped to 3-11, 0-8.

“We had two big innings where we had some big hits but also benefited from the five Lena-Winslow errors,” West Carroll Coach Don Mathey said. “Our defense was the best I’ve seen all year today.”

Sullivan provided herself with all the run support she needed with a one-out, two-run home run in the second inning. It scored Emma Aljets, who reached on an error to open the inning. The Thunder added two more runs with two outs in the inning, getting back-to-back doubles from Abby Maike and Brianna Kampmeier, and an RBI single from Anna Badtke.

West Carroll put the game out of reach with four more runs in the fifth. Kampmeier led off the inning with a double, but all the runs were unearned after the Panthers committed three consecutive errors with two outs. Ralston hit a two-run single in the inning.
