KEWANEE, Ill. — Whitney Wynkoop allowed just one hit and got plenty of offensive support from her Fulton teammates Friday in a 10-0 victory in Three Rivers Conference softball.

Losing pitcher McKenzie DeVilder got little help from her teammates; the Boilermakers committed nine errors.

Adri Rosenthal’s leadoff single in the fourth inning was the lone hit off Wynkoop, who struck out four, walked five and hit three batters.

Wynkoop also started Fulton’s six-run first inning when she reached on a three-base error with one out. Maddy Andresen drove Wynkoop in with a single, then advanced to second on an error. She then scored on a single by Chelsea Lesniewski. Faith Kennedy followed with a double, then three more errors helped the Steamers score four more runs.

Fulton added a run in the second, then put the 10-run rule in effect with a three-run sixth inning. Jamie Huennekens singled with two outs, and an an error prolonged the inning before Andresen hit a run-scoring single and Lesniewski followed with a two-run double.

 

Fillies win big

STERLING, Ill. — Brooke Stralow limited Sterling Newman to three hits and drove in four runs to lead Morrison to a 14-2 Three Rivers Conference softball win Friday.

Stralow struck out 10 and walked just one batter.

Lauren Rice hit her second home run in as many days for the Fillies and finished with three RBIs.

 

AFC tops Thunder

ASHTON, Ill. — Ashton-Franklin Center strung together back-to-back big innings Friday to defeat West Carroll 9-5 in the Northwest Upstate Illini Conference.

The Raiders pounded out 20 hits, and each of the batters had two or more hits, but they still struggled to score until the fourth inning.

“It was amazing the game was even this close because they outhit us really bad tonight,” Thunder Coach Don Mathey said. “We used all three pitchers tonight but could not slow them down.”

West Carroll (11-11, 6-4 NUIC) took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning on back-to-back two-out doubles by Sabrina Buckwalter and Riley Sullivan.

AFC came back to take the lead for good in the bottom half of the fourth. Savannah Stinnett’s two-run double put the Raiders ahead to stay, and she scored on a single by Carlee Hargis.

AFC then put the game away with a five-run fifth that included a two-run double by Addison Wetzel and a two-run single by Lexi Meurer.
