Storm gets the best of Camanche, North Cedar

Zach James/Clinton HeraldBrody Lodge watches his ball roll along the green on hole No. 4 Thursday against North Cedar at Valley Oaks in Clinton.

CLINTON — North Cedar and Camanche were dueling against one another on the golf course Thursday, but there was also another opponent in the mix — the weather.

Play was suspended at around 5:40 p.m. when severe weather hit the area.

The lead group that included Camanche’s Brody Lodge and Hampton Grim were called into the clubhouse as it was getting ready to tee off on the sixth hole at Valley Oaks Golf Course.

Scores were not counted with play being suspended.

Lodge admitted that the weather was on the golfers’ minds but said he tried not to let that damper his play.

“It’s definitely in the back of your mind, looking up at the sky, and you see everything, it’s hard to not notice it,” Lodge said. “You kind of rush things and feel it in your swing. ... I think we all saw it coming.”

Lodge tried to keep things as normal as possible.

“I tried to slow things down as much as possible today,” he said. “I just was playing the way I know how.”
