HERALD STAFF REPORT

THOMSON, Ill. — For the second straight day Thursday, West Carroll had to go against some tough pitching.

Pearl City defeated West Carroll 8-4 in Northwest Upstate Illini Conference softball, and while the Thunder got nine hits, Coach Don Mathey complimented Wolves pitcher Halle Fransen.

“Pearl City has a pitcher who can hit the glove while mixing speeds,” Mathey said. “She is very impressive.”

Fransen did not walk a West Carroll batter and struck out five.

Meanwhile, Abby Maike allowed three earned runs on 21/3 innings en route to her fifth loss of the season. Riley Sullivan came in in relief and allowed three earned runs on five hits.

West Carroll moved to 3-8 on the season.
