Huizenga honored


CLINTON — Fulton senior Brooke Huizenga was a unanimous first-team selection on the All-Three Rivers Conference West Division volleyball team.

Prophetstown senior Dena Johnson received first-team honors in the East.

Huizenga, a senior, was one of three unanimous picks in the West, joining Sarah Jacobsen of Orion and Mary Mitton of Riverdale.

Huizenga led the Steamers with 212 kills and was second with 40 ace serves and 153 digs. She also ranked third on the team with 103 assists.

Fulton finished the season with a 14-22 record and was 6-6 in conference play.

Fulton junior Daekota Knott and sophomore Emily Schipper were named to the second team, as was Erie junior Jenna Saad.

Knott had a team-high 130 blocks to go along with 71 kills and 34 aces. Schipper was the team leader with 51 aces, finished right behind Huizenga with 208 kills and was third with 130 digs.

Saad led the Cardinals with 241 assists and also had 192 digs, 81 kills and 37 aces.

Morrison put two players on the honorable mention list — senior Ally Noble and junior Emily Szabo — and Erie had one: junior Skylar Steimle. Erie went 2-10 in conference action, while Morrison was 0-12.

Johnson led Prophetstown in kills (184), blocks (41) and aces (38) and was second with 169 digs.

Prophetstown senior Hannah McKinney was a second-team selection. She had a team-high 425 assists, was second with 36 aces and 38 blocks, and ranked third with 90 digs.

Co-champion Riverdale (11-1) led the West with three first-team selections: seniors Jessie Hemm, Maria Solomon and Mitton. Jacobsen, a sophomore, and senior Lauren Matson represented the other co-champion, Orion. Senior Callie Minch of Sherrard rounded out the first team.

East Division champion Sterling Newman led its side with two first-team picks — senior Hannah Wilson and sophomore Aidan Brown, a unanimous pick. Other unanimous choices were junior Saige Barnett of Bureau Valley, senior Madison Soldati of Hall, senior Mitrese Smith of Kewanee, senior Anna Murray of Princeton and junior Hallie McGuire of Peru St. Bede.
