EASTLAKE, Ohio — Clinton just can’t find its big hit to break the now-12-game losing streak.

Down 4-3 to begin the ninth inning, the LumberKings (23-37) put runners on second and third with no outs. But as has been the case in recent weeks, Clinton was unable to take advantage of the opportunity. David Speer (SV, 1) struck out the next three hitters and got Lake County (31-28) the victory. The Captains scored first and they scored last in route to a 4-3 win.

Entering the game off of his roughest outing of the season, Lukas Schiraldi, who received a no-decision, allowed only two earned runs over five innings. The righty allowed a lead-off home run in the second inning to Bobby Bradley, his second home run of the series and eighth of the year. Schiraldi retired the next eight men that he faced, but hit Bradley on the first pitch of the first baseman’s at-bat in the fourth. Bradley scored one batter later on an RBI double by Dorssys Paulino.

Though Lake County starter Thomas Pannone left the game after five strong innings with a 3-1 lead, his bullpen failed to get him his fourth win of the season. With two outs in the seventh inning, Kristian Brito homered over the right field wall, a two run blast that tied the game.

The home run was Brito’s team leading sixth of the season.

Dominic DeMasi gave up the home run to Brito but saw his offense score just half an inning later against Peter Miller.

Francisco Mejia led off the bottom of the seventh with a single, and after Miller induced a pop out by Yonathan Mendoza, Miller walked three straight hitters. The third walk, drawn by Steven Patterson, came with the bases loaded and plated the eventual winning run. Osmer Morales came in for Miller in the frame and got the final two outs. Morales stranded five total runners over 1 2/3 innings.

Speer allowed a lead-off single in the ninth to Arby Fields, who went to third on Chris Mariscal’s single to left field. Mariscal took second base on the throw, but Speer retired the final three hitters on strikes, as Clinton finished 1-for-14 with RISP and left 11 men on base.
