GENEVA, Ill. — Series openers continue to give Clinton trouble.

For the fifth time in five attempts, the LumberKings came up on the short end of a series opener, dropping a 5-2 decision to Kane County on Tuesday night in the Midwest League.

Kane County (5-8) scored two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to pull away.

Clinton starter Tyler Herb (0-1) retired Grant Heyman to begin the sixth inning, but Steve McQuail singled to left field to put the go-ahead run on base. Stryker Trahan, who entered the game hitting just .135, used the heavy breeze out toward right field to his advantage, as his second home run of the season put Kane County ahead 4-2.

The Cougars then added a run off Troy Scott.

The LumberKings scored the first run of the game on an RBI single by Wayne Taylor.

In the sixth, a leadoff base hit by Gianfrancoe Wawoe, which extended his hit streak to seven games, preceded a game-tying RBI single by Chantz Mack.
