GENEVA, Ill. — Clinton’s bats came to life Thursday as five LumberKings recorded multiple hits in a 13-hit attack for a 7-1 Midwest League baseball victory at Kane County.

Lukas Schiraldi allowed one run on two hits over six innings to earn his first victory. The win gave the LumberKings their second 2-1 series win in the past two weeks at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.

Neither team advanced a runner past second base for the first three innings, but Clinton struck first in the fourth.

Nelson Ward began the inning with a double, and Alex Jackson’s single put men on the corners with no outs. Kane County starter Markus Solbach (1-1) got Estarlyn Morales to ground into a double play that held Ward at third, but Gianfranco Wawoe plated Ward with an infield single. Wawoe extended his hitting streak to nine games. Chris Mariscal followed with an RBI single that made it 2-0.

After a rocky debut, and a better second outing, Schiraldi (1-1) limited the damage to a Stryker Trahan home run in the fifth.

The LumberKings broke openthe game open with a four-run seventh inning, in part because of numerous defensive miscues by Kane County. An error and two missed popups gave both Ward and Jackson RBI opportunities, and both converted.

The LumberKings head to Beloit to begin a three-game series against the Snappers. The opener is set for 6:30 tonight with Jeffeson Medina (0-1, 4.00 ERA) scheduled to start for Clinton against Daniel Gossett (0-2, 9.00).
