SIOUX CITY — The Ashford University volleyball team went 1-3 at Friday and Saturday’s Morningside College Tournament.

The Saints dropped two matches Friday but responded with a split in Saturday's action.

“We played quality opponents,” Ashford coach Micah Cewe said. “We'll have a little time to prepare for Iowa Weslyan (on Wednesday) as we move back into conference play next week.”

On Friday, Ashford (8-8) lost to Wayland Baptist (Texas) and Hastings College (Neb.), both 3-1.

Allison Uceda had 10 kills and 14 digs against Wayland Baptist. The Saints had 93 digs on 109 attack attempts by Wayland, which beat NAIA No.10 Morningside in the event's championship match.

Uceda had 12 kills against Hastings. Tara Van Zuiden had 22 digs, and Camanche graduate Kelsay McCausland added two blocks.

McCausland had 15 kills on only 33 attack attempts in Ashford’s win Saturday over the University of Sioux Falls. Van Zuiden had a career-high 34 digs in the match.

The Saints finished their tournament play by sweeping York College (Neb.), bumping their record this season back to .500. Ashford held York to a negative hitting percentage (minus-0.020), while hitting .203.

McCausland and Lisa LaMasse each totaled seven kills in the victory.
