CLINTON — Four Ashford University athletes received Midwest Collegiate Conference Athlete of the Week awards on Monday morning, tying a school record set last week.

From the Saints men's soccer team, defender Eddie Garza and midfielder Michael Handley won MCC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards, respectively. Men's golf freshman Nic Huachai, and women's golf junior Jordan Davis received Players of the Week awards.

Garza scored his first career hat trick, including the game-winner, in Ashford's non-conference win over Knox College. He leads the team with four goals in seven games.

Handley, an All-MCC honorable mention pick last season, has been instrumental in Ashford's five consecutive shutouts since Sept. 1.

Davis earned Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week. She has won three tournaments in four chances this season and helped the Saints card a single-round, 18-hole record (342) this past weekend.

Huachai posted a 2-under-par 70 at the St. Francis Invitational to tie for seventh place.

Last week, the Saints had three soccer players (Nick De Backer, Kylie Willet, Chelsea Fisher) and a women's golfer (Davis) receive MCC Athlete of the Week accolades.
