CLINTON — Ashford University will sponsor a tennis clinic for Iowa's Special Olympics Organization (SOIA) on Sept. 30 at the University of Iowa Tennis Center.

The event is expected to attract nearly 50 athletes, as well as 150 student and athlete volunteers from Ashford. University of Iowa tennis team members will also help instruct.

“This is the second year Ashford University has sponsored a Special Olympics tennis clinic, and we are particularly honored to be hosting such an event in the State of Iowa, home to our Ashford campus, this year,” Ashford senior director of academic partnerships David Vande Pol said. “As a former tennis professional, I founded this clinic in order to teach Special Olympics athletes the sport of tennis while ensuring that they have fun while learning.”

The clinic, which lasts from 6 to 7:30 p.m., will feature 10-minute drills teaching forehand, backhand, serves, service return, volleys and lobs.
