LA CROSSE, Wis. — The Ashford University volleyball team was crowned co-champions after winning four matches in two days at the Oktoberfest Tournament.

The Saints (13-8) beat conference foe Waldorf College and Robert Morris University on Friday before topping Calumet College of St. Joseph and Illinois Institute of Technology on Saturday.

Ashford shared top honors with host Viterbo though it didn’t play the V-Hawks, marking the Ashford’s first share of a tournament title since the 2005 season.

Juniors Allison Uceda and Kelsay McCausland of Camanche were selected to the all-tournament team.

“I’m really proud of our team, and it’s probably the best we’ve played all season,” Ashford coach Micah Cewe said. “Nothing is better than to get four wins on the road and really come together as a squad. It’s a great confidence booster heading back into conference play this week.”

Uceda led Ashford in the opener against Waldorf, racking up a team-high 12 kills and 12 digs. Junior defensive specialist Tara Van Zuiden matched Uceda’s kill total.

Uceda was one kill short of another double-double against Robert Morris, and McCausland led the way offensively with 11 kills and four service aces.

Freshman Sarah Wenzel of Clinton ripped a season-high 10 kills against Calumet College of St. Joseph on just 14 attempts (.714 hitting pct.). Uceda tallied 13 kills.

Wenzel was among three players with double-digit kill totals with 10 more against Illinois Institute of Technology, joining Hanna Bruns’10 and Uceda’s 11.
