MILES — The Trojans topped East Central, 8-4, Friday in the third-place game at the East Central Tournament. Preston scored five runs in the first two innings to pull away.

Jason Feddersen and Josh Feddersen each hit solo home runs for Preston. Josh Fedderson also pitched a complete game, striking out 12. East Central starter Nate Wall fanned 10.

Morrison to sectional final

MENDOTA, Ill. — Jason Smith limited Mendota to two hits, and Ethan Goodenough supplied offensive support with a grand slam as Morrison advanced to today’s Class 2A Mendota Sectional final with a five-inning, 10-0 win in the semifinals Thursday.

Smith struck out five in the semifinals victory, Goodenough drove in five runs and Kyle Dermody also homered for the Mustangs (25-2).

Morrison will play in this morning’s championship game against the winner of Friday’s Byron vs. Milledgeville/Polo semifinal.



DeWitt wins doubleheader

CENTER POINT — Scott Burke delivered three hits in each game and pitched a complete game in the second contest as Central DeWitt swept Center Point-Urbana 8-4 and 13-1 in WaMaC Conference baseball Thursday.

Winning pitcher Ryan Cady drove in two runs, and Burke, Greg Oldsen and Zach Posey added an RBI apiece in the Game 1 victory. Burke had a pair of doubles and drove in three runs in Game 2, and Oldsen hit a triple and had three RBIs. The Sabers broke open the game with an eight-run sixth inning that led to the mercy rule being applied.

Bellevue bops Preston

PRESTON — Brent Schneider homered and drove in three runs, and Bellevue scored in bunches of threes as it defeated Preston 9-1 in non-conference baseball Thursday.

Preston scored the first run in the first inning, but Bellevue countered with three-spots in the third, fifth and sixth innings.

Bellevue pitcher Trevor Roling limited the Trojans to singles from Jason Feddersen, Lucas Assenmacher, Alex Heinerichsen, Lance Simmons and Blake Tebbe.

Sabers sweep Indians

CAMANCHE — Central DeWitt built an 8-1 lead after an inning and a half, and then it held on to beat Camanche 9-7 on Wednesday in the season-opening baseball game for the two schools. It was more of the same in the second game, when the Sabers jumped to a 13-0 lead in the first two innings en route to a 15-2 win.

Central DeWitt (2-0) scored its first run of the season on a passed ball, while an error led to the second and third runs. Ryan Cady highlighted a five-run second inning in Game 1 with a two-run home run.

The Sabers wasted no time in the second game. The first two batters walked and then Greg Oldsen belted a three-run home run.
