BETTENDORF — Bettendorf, the third-ranked softball team in Class 4A, rode a pair of no-hit pitching performances to a doubleheader sweep of Clinton Monday.

Bettendorf won the first game 5-0, scoring twice in the third inning and three more times in the sixth. Lori Pankratz fired the no-hitter for the Bulldogs.

Courtney Kadner pitched for Clinton, giving up eight hits and fanning two batters.

“We did a nice job in the first game,” said Clinton coach Renee Shovlain. “We had some situations where they had runners in scoring position, but we used good pitching and good defense to get out of trouble. In the innings they scored, it was just a matter of a few errors by us and timely hitting on their part.”

Bettendorf won the second game 10-0 in five innings. Amanda Kellums pitched the no-hitter for Bettendorf.

Megan Osterhaus pitched for Clinton, giving up 11 hits.

“The thing that hurt us in both games is our bats couldn’t match their pitchers’ speed,” explained Shovlain, whose team is 2-8 overall and 0-4 in the Mississippi Athletic Conference. “We had trouble getting any kind of offense going.”

Bettendorf improved to 14-2 and 4-0.

Clinton hosts Burlington in a doubleheader Thursday at Chancy Park, starting at 4:30 p.m.
