LENA, Ill. — Fulton fought back in the second game after surrendering eight runs in the first inning but came up short of earning a split in a non-conference baseball doubleheader against Lena-Winslow on Saturday.

The Panthers beat the Steamers 7-1 in the first game and then held on for a 15-13 win in the second game.

Lena-Winslow sent 11 batters to the plate and scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning in the opener to break open a 1-1 game. The Steamers had tied the game at 1 in the top of the fourth when Travis Ray singled, stole second base and scored on Taylor Manon’s two-out single.

Helped by six consecutive singles, the Panthers built an 8-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning of Game 2. The Steamers battled back the rest of the way but couldn’t get over the hump.

Ray hit a bases-clearing double in a five-run fourth that helped Fulton pull within 11-7, but Lena-Winslow answered with three in the fifth. A two-out rally in the sixth produced four runs, including a two-run home run by Ashton Hutton. Hutton added a two-run double in the seventh that made the final margin 15-13. Hutton finished the game with three hits and five RBIs.
