BURLINGTON — The Clinton High baseball team found out why Burlington is ranked among the state’s best.

The Bees used big innings in both games of a twin bill Thursday to record wins of 8-2 and 11-1 in Mississippi Athletic Conference action.

In the opener, the Class 4A 10th-ranked Grayhounds tallied four runs in the first inning to take the lead for good.

Clinton, which got its two runs in the third inning, got two hits in the game from Dylan Schneeberger and an RBI from Chris Perrin.

Burlington led the second game just 3-1 before erupting for seven runs in the fifth.

Kyle Peterson paced Burlington with a homer.

Dustin Carpenter doubled to lead Clinton and Ryan Clausen added an RBI.

Burlington is now 8-2 in the MAC and 17-5 overall, while the River Kings dip to 4-9 and 2-8.

Clinton heads to Eldridge Monday to take on North Scott. The first of two games starts at 5 p.m.
