Led by Kelly Michaelsen’s two-game series of 346, the Camanche girls bowling team won the Class A portion of the Clinton Invitational, while the Camanche boys placed second Saturday at Plaza Bowl.

In Class AA, both the Clinton boys and girls placed fourth. In Class A, Bellevue placed fifth in both boys and girls action.

The Camanche girls won with a pin total of 2,397, eight ahead of second-place West Central. West Central’s Janee Seitz bowled a series of 355, the best in Class A girls. Behind Seitz’s performance, West Central held a 17-pin lead heading into Baker play.

The Indians outscored West Central 880-855 in the Baker rotation to overcome the deficit and claim the title.

On the boys side, Camanche finished just six pins behind Louisa-Muscatine. The Falcons bowled the highest score off all teams entered in the Invitational with 2,952. The Indians’ 2,946 was the third-best total, also behind Class AA champion Bettendorf’s 2,949.

Camanche led Louisa-Muscatine 2,057-2,016 heading into the Baker rounds, but the Falcons won that portion 936-889 to earn the tournament championship.

In Class AA, the River Kings were only 19 pins behind Bettendorf with 2,930, but Waterloo West (2,944) and Davenport West (2,935) also finished just in front of Clinton.

Clinton had the highest game and series from an individual. Senior Seth Pennock bowled a 278 in Game 1 and finished with a two-game total of 505. The River Kings led after Round 1. Bettendorf was the closest to Clinton but was still 137 pins behind. Waterloo West was in sixth place after the first round but bowled the best Baker rotation, 1,046. Clinton dropped to fourth with a Baker score of 822. Bettendorf surged ahead of Clinton with a Round 2 score of 978 to take the title.

The River Queens were led by Taylor Wiebers’ series of 366 to a total of 2,433. The battle for first was tight, with Muscatine edging Waterloo West 2,687-2,686 for the Class 2A girls crown.
