AMES — The Central DeWitt Sabers placed seventh at the Iowa Class 3A boys state golf tournament at Coldwater Golf Links Saturday.

After a team score of 332 put them in fifth place in the nine-team field Friday, Central shot a 349 Saturday and placed seventh with a two-day total of 681.

Huxley Ballard won the 3A title by 13 strokes with a score of 632.

Junior Tyler Murphy had the Sabers’ top score in the tournament with a 165 after rounds of 82 and 83. Central sophomore Brett McGranahan had rounds of 81 and 88 for a 169.

Sophomore Jon Bauman had rounds of 88 and 87 for a 175 and senior Matt Reynolds recorded rounds of 87 and 91 for a 178.

Rounding out the Sabers’ scores sophomore Ethan Nelson had a two-day total of 181 after rounds of 82 and 99, and senior Nick Tigges’ two-day score was 194 after rounds of 92 and 102.
