CLINTON — Central DeWitt and Maquoketa combined to qualify several athletes for the Iowa State Track and Field meet in Des Moines.

The Sabers will send athletes to compete in seven events in the girls portion of the meet, while the boys qualified in eight events.

Freshman Lindsay Smith qualified in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:10.25. Smith also teamed Brittney Donovan, Abbey Peterzalek and Meghan Dunahoo in the Shuttle hurdle relay with a time of 1:08.02.

Senior Kayla Selby will compete in the 100- and 200-meter dashes individually with times of 12.53 and 26.09 respectively.

Erin Burmester recorded the fourth best throw in regional discus action in class 3A. Burmester threw a distance of 124-3.

The Sabers 4x200 team of Marissa Martin, Michelle Green, Eryca Schebler and Selby turned in a time of 1:47.98 to qualify.

Selby, Green and Martin teamed with Whitney Roling in the 4x400 to qualify with a time of 4:13.37.

On the boys side, Ben Lubben will lead the Sabers to Des Moines after qualifying in the 100- and 200--meter dash with times of 11.25 and 22.77 respectively.

Kasey Kreiter turned in a time of 15.22 in the 110-meter hurdles to qualify.

The Central 4x200 team of Sebastian Meggers, Ben Comer, Michael Burke and Lubben ran a time of 1:32.12 to make it to Des Moines.

In the 4x800, the Sabers team of Seth Klinefelter, Ben Niemann, Marshall Nicolay and Seth Garton qualified with a clocking of 8:18.23.

Meggers, Comer and Garton teamed with Brian Cheney in the Distance medley to qualify with a time of 3:41.12.

Michael Burke tied for the second best height in Class 3A district high jump with a jump of 6-2.

Lubben recorded a leap of 21-3 in the long jump and is headed to Des Moines.

Trisha Miller will represent the Maquoketa girls team as she qualified in the 1,500- and 3,000-meter relays with times of 5:00.07 and 10:44.53 respectively.

On the boys side, Maquoketa qualified a team in the 4x100 with a time of 44.19. The team consists of Tyler Rutenbeck, Trevor Mangler, Dillon O’Connell and Eric Manson.

Manson will also compete in the long jump with hopes of a state title as he recorded the best district qualifying jump in the Iowa Class 3A field with a distance of 21-9 3/4.
