CLINTON — After winning four of six singles matches, Clinton High School clinched a 5-2 win against Dubuque Hempstead at the Class 2A girls tennis team regional meet with a victory at No. 1 doubles Saturday.

“We played great singles and doubles at the top, which is what you need to qualify a doubles team or singles player for state,” Clinton coach Cindy Rasche said. “Dubuque Hempstead will be returning to Clinton for the individual regional this Thursday, so it was great to see what they had before the big day.”

Clinton won the first four flights in singles, then Julia Vodislav and Sarah Massey finished off the win with their 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1 doubles.

The win advanced the River Queens to the regional quarterfinals against Dubuque Senior at 9 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Valley.

No. 1 — Vodislav/Massey (C) def. O’Berhoffer/Schwartz 6-0, 6-0. Other doubles matches were not completed.

Camanche girls post 2 wins

CAMANCHE — Camanche opened postseason play with a pair of wins in the Iowa Class 1A Region 4 team tournament Saturday on its home court.

The Indians beat Marion 6-0 in the morning and Maquoketa 5-0 in the afternoon. The Indians (11-0) didn’t lose a game in the latter match, which moved them on to a regional quarterfinal matchup against Davenport Assumption at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Camanche.
