Clinton High School’s doubles team of Megan Goetzl and Jenny Vens lost a first-round match, won in first-round consolation play but lost in the consolation quarterfinals Thursday at the Iowa Class 2A girls tennis state meet.
The sophomore combination lost to Lucy Korsakov and Jennifer Aldrich of West Des Moines Valley in a first-round match, 6-3, 6-0. In first-round consolation play, the River Queens defeated Paizen Ku and Adriana Pitcher of Ames 6-0, 7-6 (4), before falling in the consolation quarterfinals to Elizabeth Hoffmann and Lisa Cowden of Cedar Rapids Xavier 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (7).
“(It was) two young sophomores’ first experience at the state level, and they had a great learning experience that was very positive,” Clinton coach Cindy Rasche said. “We look forward to even better things in the years to come.”
