MARION — Clinton placed 12th Tuesday at the Iowa Class 4A girls golf regional tournament at Gardner Golf Course. The River Queens finished with a 478 team total.

Iowa City High won the meet with a 373, and Muscatine edged three other Mississippi Athletic Conference rivals to claim the second spot from the region for the state tournament. The Muskies shot a 380 team total, three shots better than Pleasant Valley, with Bettendorf and Davenport Central tied for fourth another two strokes back.

Ashley Hoganson of Muscatine won medalist honors with a 5-over-par 77. Rounding out the top five finishers — each of whom advanced to state — were Leah Burich of Bettendorf (81), Brenna Haskins of Davenport Central (82), McKayla Kennedy of Iowa City High (84) and Chrissie McGaffigan of Bettendorf (88).



Area teams shut out in 1A

WAPELLO — New London and host Wapello claimed the two state tournament berths at the Class 1A Wapello Regional on Tuesday at Indian Hills Golf and Country Club. District champion East Central was unable to advance, and neither was Preston’s Megan Wagner, who was competing individually.

New London, which finished with a 365 and won by 64 strokes, had the top three individuals. Jessica Lerdal was the medalist with an 86, followed by Rachel Thornburg (88) and Courtney Taylor (91). Christy Nelson of Central City (92) and Jane Redlinger of Keota (93) also qualified for the state meet.
