KEWANEE, Ill. — Clinton Community College collected a pair of victories over the weekend at the Black Hawk East Tournament.

On Saturday, the Cougars rolled up an 88-72 win over Prairie State.

Nick Thompson led the winners with 26 points and 11 rebounds, while Eric Robinson had 21 points and four assists and Jake Gordon 19 points off the bench.

“This was Eric Robinson’s first game back from a broken foot, and he gave us a big spark off the bench,” said Clinton coach Josh Davis. “He made a key defensive steal and layup that gave us momentum off the bench.

“I’m proud of our defense effort,” he added. “Prairie State was averaging 88 points a game. We also had 21 assists as a team, so that shows we moved the ball well.”

Thompson scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a 71-63 win over Black Hawk East on Sunday.

Deonté Hines contributed 13 points and four assists, Toney McCants had 12 points and 10 boards and Adrian Fletcher contributed 11 points and four assists.

“Overall, the defensive effort was pretty good,” said Davis. “We led by 18 in the second half, but they made a bit of a move late in the game. However, we made some key free throws to secure the win.”
