CLINTON — Earlier this week, Mark Misiewicz and Dylan Diedrich were named the Clinton Herald boys basketball area co-players of the year for 2007.

Today, both are also the lone repeat selections to the newspaper’s all-area first team.

Misiewicz, a 6-foot-7 senior from Clinton, was among the Mississippi Athletic Conference leaders in scoring (17.1 points a game) and rebounds (8.9 a contest).

He was a first-team MAC selection and second-team Class 4A all-state pick by the Iowa Newspaper Association as the River Kings compiled a 12-11 mark.

Diedrich, a 6-1 senior, was all-everything for Northeast.

He averaged 24.2 points, 5.0 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 3.8 steals a game while being named the Big East Conference player of the year and a Class 2A all-state first-teamer by the INA.

Through his efforts, the Rebels advanced to the Class 2A state tournament and compiled a 19-6 overall mark.

Rounding out the first team are Fulton’s Quinn Wilkin, Central DeWitt’s Brett Mangan, West Carroll’s Chris Anderson, Bellevue Marquette’s Matt Kilburg and Andrew’s Curtis Roeder.

Wilkin, a 6-2 senior, was named the Three Rivers Conference player of the year and was a unanimous pick to the league’s first team.

He averaged 17.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.

Wilkin was on the Herald’s third team last year.

Mangan, a 6-4 senior, guided the Sabers to their first state tournament berth in 11 years and earned second-team all-state honors in Class 3A by the INA.

He averaged 17.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists a game while leading his team with 40 3-pointers. The first-team WaMaC Conference East Division selection helped the Sabers to a 19-6 record.

Anderson, a 6-4 junior, helped guide the Thunder to a spot in the Illinois Class A state tournament.

He averaged 13.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game as his team finished with a 26-6 mark. Anderson was a unanimous pick to the Northwest Upstate Illini Conference South Division first team.

Kilburg, a 6-4 senior, averaged 18.4 points and 6.7 rebounds a game while guiding the Mohawks to the Big East Conference title and 21-3 overall mark.

He was a first-team Big East selection and a Herald third-teamer last year.

Roeder, a 6-2 senior, helped the Hawks to a 20-6 record as they advanced within a game of the state tournament.

He averaged 9.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game while earning first-team Big East Conference honors.

SECOND TEAM

n Dan Schnier, a 6-1 junior from Prince of Peace: Schnier, a first-team Big East Conference pick, averaged 13.4 points and 3.7 rebounds a contest to help the Irish to an 11-10 mark.

n Patrick Gerdes, a 5-10 senior from Central DeWitt: Gerdes, averaged 11.0 points, 7.5 assists and 2.7 rebounds a game while earning first-team WaMaC Conference East Division honors. He was a third-team all-state pick in Class 3A by the INA.

n Jordan Cornilsen, a 6-0 junior from East Central: Cornilsen averaged 18.1 points per game. He was a second-team Big East Conference pick and was also on the Herald’s second team a year ago.

n Danny Ernst, a 6-1 senior from Preston: Ernst played a big role in the Trojans putting together a 15-8 mark this season. A first-team Big East Conference pick, he averaged 15.0 points and 2.2 rebounds a game.

n Zach Brehm, a 6-3 senior from West Carroll: Brehm averaged 13.2 points, 8.0 rebounds and 5.0 steals a game. He was on the Northwest Upstate Illini Conference South Division first team.

n Brad Cook, a 6-3 senior from Maquoketa: Cook averaged 12.4 points, 3.0 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game. He was on the WaMaC Conference East Division first team and member of the Herald’s third team last year.

n Casey Kettmann, a 6-2 senior from Bellevue Marquette: Kettmann averaged 13.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game while earning first-team Big East Conference honors.

THIRD TEAM

n David Lakin, a 5-9 senior from Clinton: Lakin not only ran the show as Clinton’s point guard, but also was among the league leaders in 3-pointers with 25 in conference games. He was a MAC honorable mention selection.

n Nick Mohr, a 6-2 senior from Northeast: Mohr averaged 7.3 points and 4.6 rebounds a game while landing on the Big East Conference second team.

n Aaron Fullan, a 6-3 junior from Unity Christian: Fullan was a huge force for the Knights this season, averaging a double-double of 19.4 points and 11.5 rebounds a game. He was a second-team pick to the Northwest Upstate Illini Conference South Division team.

n Kramer Steffens, a 6-2 junior from Central DeWitt: Steffens averaged 13.0 points and 4.4 rebounds per game for the Sabers. He was a second-team WaMaC Conference East Division selection.

n Trevor Popkin, a 6-2 senior from Morrison: Popkin led the Mustangs in points and rebounds for three straight seasons, finishing his career with 946 points. The second-team Three Rivers Conference pick helped his team to an 11-3 mark in the league, good for second place.

n Luke Patterson, a 6-4 senior from Maquoketa: A big force inside for the Cardinals, Patterson averaged 16.7 points and 7.1 rebounds a game. He was a first-team WaMaC Conference East Division selection.

n J.C. Cornelius, a 6-4 senior from Andrew: Cornelius averaged 9.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. He was a second-team Big East Conference selection.
