GENEVA, Ill. — The East knocked off the West by an 8-2 score at the annual Midwest League All-Star Game Tuesday night at Kane County’s Elfstrom Stadium.

Eight Clinton LumberKings participated for the West. Jose Vallejo had a triple to lead the local charge, while John Whittleman also had a hit and scored half of his team’s runs.

Whittleman scored on Brandon Buckman’s double in the third inning.

Clinton pitcher Omar Poveda entered the game in the third inning and gave up three runs while taking the loss.

West Michigan designated hitter Deik Scram took home most valuable player honors by going 1-for-2 while scoring two runs.

Other position players from Clinton to participate were K.C. Herren and Chad Tracy. Other Clinton pitchers playing were Brennan Garr, Broc Coffman and Zach Phillips.

Coffman and Phillips each had a strikeout.

Herren said the entire All-Star experience was exciting for all.

“I was at the hotel last night and looking at all of my teammates that were there,” he said. “I thought that was pretty cool.”

Next year’s All-Star game will be in Michigan, as the Great Lakes Loons will serve as host.

Clinton starts the second half of the season at home Thursday when Kane County visits. Game time is 7 p.m.
