ORION, Ill. — Jenna Malmen singled, doubled, homered and drove in three runs to lead top-seeded Orion past Fulton 13-2 in five innings in a semifinal game of the Illinois Class 1A Orion Regional softball tournament Tuesday.

The Chargers did all their offensive damage in two innings, scoring six times in the second inning and seven in the fourth. Tori Matzen earned the win for Orion, allowing five hits and one walk while striking out 11 batters.

Liz Carbaugh drove in both Fulton runs with a two-run double, and Lydia Schaver had a pair of hits for the Steamers, who finished the season with a 7-23 record.

Milledgeville/Polo prevails in 10th inning

MORRISON, Ill. — After nine scoreless innings, top-seeded Milledgeville/Polo won a pitchers duel in the bottom of the 10th inning to advance to Saturday’s championship game of the Class 2A Morrison Regional.

Andrea Herin drove in the winning run for the Missiles, who improved to 26-2. Winning pitcher Keali Engelkens struck out 13 batters, allowed four hits and walked one batter. Milledgeville/Polo, meanwhile, had nine hits off Taylor Smith, who struck out seven batters.

Milledgeville/Polo will play the winner of today’s 4 p.m semifinal between Morrison and West Carroll in Saturday’s 10 a.m. championship in Morrison.
