BELLEVUE — The seventh-ranked Prince of Peace Irish girls basketball team trailed the Bellevue Comets 28-24 at the half and led just 37-34 after three quarters before outscoring the home team 17-5 in the fourth quarter in a 54-39 Big East Conference win Friday night.

Despite Dan Schnier’s game-high 18 points the Prince of Peace Irish boys dropped a 75-55 decision to Bellevue in the nightcap of the girl/boy doubleheader.

Tori Isenhour poured in a game-high 17 points to pace unbeaten Prince of Peace (9-0, 3-0 Big East), which got 12 points from Lauren Ryan, nine from Brooke Craig, eight from Kelli Krogman and six from Kim Bertram.

Lindsey Knake led Bellevue (5-6, 1-2) with 13 points.

“It was a very sloppy start to the game,” Prince of Peace coach Dave Nelson said. “Bellevue simply dominated us on the boards early in the game.

“We finally got a little movement in our offense in the second half and picked up our defense and had a few good runs. They gave us all we could handle.”

Boys Game

Bellevue (4-4, 1-2 Big East) had a balanced scoring attack, led by Aaron Weinschenk’s 15 points. Chris Handke and Chase Medinger added 13 points apiece and Grant Zeimet was also in double figures with 10.

Schnier was Prince of Peace’s lone double-digit scorer. The Irish (2-6, 1-2) got nine points from Drew Sikkema and eight apiece from Ben Lehmkuhl and Zach Schmitz.

The Comets led 16-8 after one quarter, 38-27 at the half and 58-38 after three quarters.

The Irish teams will be back in action today when they host Springville in a girl/boy doubleheader, beginning at 6 p.m.

Bellevue visits crosstown rival Marquette for a Big East twin bill Tuesday.
