CLINTON — The 14th-ranked Prince of Peace Irish softball team went 2-1 at the Bellevue Comet Invitational Saturday.

Prince of Peace defeated the Preston Trojans 12-2 in five innings and cruised past the East Central Raiders 11-0 in five innings. The Irish came up short against the Maquoketa Cardinals, falling 2-1.

Prince of Peace (12-6) piled up 16 hits against Preston, with Katie Flood going 4-for-4 with a home run, two doubles and five RBIs. Teammate Alyssa Kenney had two hits and two RBIs, and Lauren Ryan was 3-for-3. Lauren and Colleen Ryan combined on a two-hitter.

The Irish rode an eight-run second inning to their big way over East Central. Brooke Craig was 3-for-3 with an RBI. Lauren and Colleen Ryan, and Emma Nelson drove in two runs apiece. Lauren Ryan hurled a three-hitter.

All the scoring in Prince of Peace’s loss to Maquoketa came in the first inning as the Irish scored once in the top of the inning before the Cardinals scored twice in the bottom of the frame. Nelson drove in Prince of Peace’s run. Colleen Ryan, an eighth-grader, fired a four-hitter.

The Irish will be back in action today when they host Preston in a Big East Conference clash.
