SOUTH BEND, Ind. — A fourth-inning run-scoring single by Reynaldo Navarro was enough to hand Clinton ace Brett Lorin his second loss of the season as South Bend claimed the series-opener with a 4-1 win over the LumberKings Friday night in Midwest League baseball.

Lorin (4-2) allowed just a run on six hits over five innings but walked three, including Ramon Ramirez with one out in the fourth. After a double by Isaias Asencio, Navarro singled past the drawn-in infield to score Ramirez for a 1-0 lead.

The LumberKings couldn’t get anything going against left-hander Taylor Sinclair of the Silver Hawks. Sinclair (2-1) pitched 7 2/3 innings, allowing only an unearned run on four hits.

Clinton finally ended the shutout in the eighth as Denny Almonte ripped a two-out double to right-center, ending Sinclair’s night. T.J. Hose then came on, eventually inducing the inning-ending groundout from Steve Moss, but an error allowed Almonte to score.

But the Kings were already down 3-0 at that point. Asencio lifted a two-run double to right-center off Ryan Moorer in the seventh inning, and Parker added an RBI single in the eighth for the 4-1 lead.
