GOOSE LAKE — Gregg Mohl will take over as activities director at Northeast High School starting next month.

Mohl, who has been at Northeast since 1983, succeeds longtime athletic director Gary Lueders. Lueders accepted a similar position at Clinton High School earlier this month.

“I just hope to follow the great tradition established by Gary,” said Mohl. “He did an outstanding job at Northeast. I’m looking forward to the job and working with the staff. We have great support from the community, plus the booster club does a fabulous job.

Mohl graduated from Lost Nation in 1977 and Wartburg College in 1981.

He spent a year teaching at both Ventura and Maquoketa before heading to Northeast.

Mohl, who also coaches softball at Northeast, taught physical education and driver’s education before becoming a counselor at the elementary school in 1989.

In 1995 he became a guidance counselor for grades seven through 12, a job he will continue.

Mohl’s wife, Rhonda, teaches at Lincoln High School in Clinton. They have two daughters, Megan and Courtney.

“Gregg is an ideal replacement,” said Northeast Principal Joe Jarvis. “He’s been with our school for a long time and is familiar with our activities here. He has a lot of great qualities that will help him succeed in this job.”

Jarvis also paid tribute to Lueders.

“I’m personally happy for Gary on getting the Clinton job, but at the same time I have mixed emotions because it’s very tough to see him go,” Jarvis said. “He’s obviously meant a lot to Northeast activities — he’s one of the big reasons our programs have flourished over the years. We’ll certainly miss him.”
