North Cedar took advantage of Camanche’s sixth and seventh errors of the night to push a run across the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning and defeat the Indians 7-6 in non-conference girls softball Wednesday evening.

A one-out error, a passed ball, a sacrifice bunt and a wild throw to first on that play allowed the Knights to snap a 6-6 tie in the seventh.

“One thing you can say for the girls is they fought back,” Camanche coach Troy Dodd said of his team, which trailed 6-2 after three innings. “At the same time, seven errors are more errors than we’ve made all season long combined. We could have played much better in the field overall.”

Camanche (4-8) used a run-scoring single by Julia Moore to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. North Cedar came back with two in its half of the first, but Camanche pulled even in the third.

But errors also hurt the Indians in the bottom of the third, when North Cedar scored four times to go up 6-2.

“We should have been out of the inning with one or two runs at the most,” Dodd said.

Camanche wasted no time erasing that deficit, though, scoring four runs in the top of the fourth.

Brooke Cochran started the rally with two outs when she reached on an error, and Courtney Harksen did the same. Kylie Vogel delivered a run-scoring single, then Sarah Thornton walked to load the bases. The next three batters all reached — Lindsay Grams with a walk, Moore with a single and Mussmann on an error — with one run scoring each time to pull Camanche even before North Cedar recorded the third out.
